Congratulations on Your Lip Enhancement!

We’re so excited for you! Many people love the results they see from hyaluronic acid lip filler injections, and we hope you do too.

As with all dermal fillers, it’s important to know how to care for your lips after treatment and how to handle any potential side effects. Keep reading to learn how to stay comfortable and get ready to show off lips you’ll lov

What to Expect

After your lip treatment, some irritation or side effects may occur, but the majority are mild and manageable. It’s important to remember that hyaluronic acid fillers are not permanent.

Common side effects include:

  • Bruising
  • Swelling
  • Mild pain or tenderness
  • Redness

Most side effects resolve within a few days to a couple of weeks. If you experience severe pain, throbbing, loss of color, or greying on or around your lips, contact us immediately, as additional treatment may be necessary.

Steps to Support Your Best Results

If you notice mild side effects, try these steps to minimize reactions and stay comfortable:

  • Apply cool compresses to the treated area (gently, without firm pressure) for 5 minutes, up to 4 times a day.
  • Reduce facial expressions and lip pursing for the first 48 hours.
  • Avoid sun exposure as much as possible.
  • Do not massage the injection site.
  • Keep your head elevated while sleeping.
  • Avoid vigorous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Check with your injector for personalized guidance.

What to Avoid

To reduce the risk of bruising, swelling, or other reactions, avoid the following before and immediately after your treatment:

  • Rubbing or touching the treatment area.
  • Applying lipstick, Vaseline, or other lip products.
  • Consuming alcohol prior to your procedure.
  • Taking blood-thinning medications or supplements for one week before treatment, including aspirin, warfarin, clopidogrel, NSAIDs, fish oil, vitamin E, St. John’s wort, garlic tablets, ginkgo biloba, and ginseng.

If side effects are not at least 50% improved within three days, contact your injector—additional treatment, such as a prescription dose of steroids, may be required.

Get Ready for Your Results

Mild post-treatment discomfort is temporary. Side effects should subside, allowing you to enjoy your enhanced lips quickly.

Congratulations again on your lip enhancement! Most fillers last 9–12 months, but some patients choose to schedule a follow-up at the 6-month mark to maintain their results.
