NouvaDerm After-Care Instructions: How to Heal Safely and Maximize Your Results
Your skin is healing, remodeling, and building collagen — gentle care is key!
Proper aftercare is the most important part of your skin resurfacing treatment, whether you received a light refresh or a deeper resurfacing procedure such as NouvaDerm in our Tulsa clinic. The way you care for your skin in the hours and days after treatment directly affects your results, your collagen remodeling, and how quickly your skin heals. Following the right post-resurfacing care instructions supports healthy recovery, minimizes downtime, and helps prevent unwanted side effects like irritation, hyperpigmentation, or prolonged redness.
At Luminate Clinic, every resurfacing treatment is customized for your skin type, concerns, and depth of correction. Because each level of resurfacing—Glow, Lite, Mod, or Max—has different healing needs, we provide a clear, easy-to-follow aftercare plan to guide you through each stage of recovery. From when to cleanse, how to keep your skin hydrated, when to begin sunscreen, and how to care for micro-crusting (MENDs), your aftercare routine protects your investment and ensures the most beautiful, long-lasting results.
Whether you’re treating fine lines, pigmentation, acne scars, texture, or sun damage, this laser resurfacing aftercare guide will walk you step-by-step through what to expect, what to avoid, and how to care for your skin so it heals smoothly, safely, and with the radiant glow you came in for.

🔥 EXTRA INSTRUCTIONS for MOD or MAX Treatments
These stronger settings create deeper controlled resurfacing and require soaks to support healing and prevent scabbing.
⭐ Astringent or Vinegar Soaks (MOD / MAX Only)
Soaks help:
✔ Reduce inflammation
✔ Minimize crusting and scabbing
✔ Manage oozing or drainage
✔ Keep healing tissue soft and hydrated
SOAKING INSTRUCTIONS (Easy Guide)
1. Prepare the Solution
Choose ONE:
- Astringent Powder (Surfatrol / Domeboro)
→ Mix 1 packet with 12–16 oz cool water
OR - Vinegar Soak
→ Mix 2 tablespoons white distilled vinegar with 8 oz cool water
2. Wash Your Hands
Always wash hands thoroughly before touching your skin.
3. Soak the Gauze
- Use clean 4×4 soft gauze pads
- Dip gauze into solution
- Wring out excess — should be damp, not dripping
4. Apply the Soak
- Gently press or blot onto skin
- Leave on 15–30 minutes
- Repeat every 2–4 hours as directed
- Do NOT rub or pick
5. Remove Debris
Soaks help loosen healing tissue.
Gently wipe away white, yellow, or gray drainage if present.
6. Rinse & Moisturize
After the soak:
- Gently rinse with cool water (fresh gauze) OR lightly cleanse
- Apply a thin layer of your healing ointment:
- Pomatrol
- Aquaphor
- Revitatrol
Keeping the skin moist prevents cracking, discomfort, and scarring.

⏱ When to Schedule Your Next Skin Resurfacing Treatment
To achieve the best results from your skin resurfacing series, it’s important to time your follow-up treatments correctly. Your skin needs a precise amount of healing time to rebuild collagen, remodel texture, and safely prepare for your next session.
Recommended re-treatment intervals:
- Every 4 weeks for most patients receiving a resurfacing series
- Every 2 weeks for acne, active breakouts, or texture conditions needing faster turnover
- Every 6 weeks if you are 60+ years old, or if your skin requires longer healing between sessions
Staying consistent with your treatment schedule allows each session to build on the last, delivering smoother texture, brighter tone, and healthier collagen over time.
